Apple iOS and iPadOS Buffer Overflow Vulnerability (CVE-2021-30983)
Apple iOS and iPadOS contain a buffer overflow vulnerability that could allow an application to execute code with kernel privileges.
A local attacker, without authentication, can achieve full data confidentiality loss, arbitrary modification of data, complete denial of service or system unavailability. Federal agencies are required to remediate by 2022-07-18 under CISA BOD 22-01.
This is a Classic Buffer Overflow (CWE-120) vulnerability in Apple iOS and iPadOS. A buffer overflow issue was addressed with improved memory handling. This issue is fixed in iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2. An application may be able to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Exploitation requires local access, low attack complexity, no authentication required, and user interaction required.
