Why patchRisk explained in plain English
Worst-case scenarioIf unpatched

A remote attacker, without authentication, can achieve full data confidentiality loss, arbitrary modification of data, complete denial of service or system unavailability. Federal agencies are required to remediate by 2022-04-21 under CISA BOD 22-01.

How the attack worksNo clicks needed

This is a Improper Authentication (CWE-287) vulnerability in Dasan Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) Routers. An issue was discovered on Dasan GPON home routers. It is possible to bypass authentication simply by appending "?images" to any URL of the device that requires authentication, as demonstrated by the /menu.html?images/ or /GponForm/diag_FORM?images/ URI. One can then manage the device. Exploitation requires remote network access, low attack complexity, no authentication required, and no user interaction required.
