Google Chromium GPU Heap Buffer Overflow Vulnerability (CVE-2022-4135)
Google Chromium GPU contains a heap buffer overflow vulnerability that allows a remote attacker, who has compromised the renderer process, to potentially perform a sandbox escape via a crafted HTML page. This vulnerability could affect multiple web browsers that utilize Chromium, including, but not limited to, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera.
A remote attacker, without authentication, can achieve full data confidentiality loss, arbitrary modification of data, complete denial of service or system unavailability. Federal agencies are required to remediate by 2022-12-19 under CISA BOD 22-01.
This is a Out-of-bounds Write (CWE-787) vulnerability in Google Chromium GPU. Heap buffer overflow in GPU in Google Chrome prior to 107.0.5304.121 allowed a remote attacker who had compromised the renderer process to potentially perform a sandbox escape via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity: High) Exploitation requires remote network access, low attack complexity, no authentication required, and user interaction required.
