KB5041160: Windows Server Security Update (August 2024)
Microsoft Windows Scripting Engine contains a memory corruption vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attacker to initiate remote code execution via a specially crafted URL.
A remote attacker, without authentication, can achieve full data confidentiality loss, arbitrary modification of data, complete denial of service or system unavailability. Federal agencies are required to remediate by 2024-09-03 under CISA BOD 22-01.
This is a Type Confusion (CWE-843) vulnerability in Microsoft Windows. Exploitation requires remote network access, higher attack complexity, no authentication required, and user interaction required.
