NUUO NVRmini2 Devices Missing Authentication Vulnerability
NUUO NVRmini2 devices contain a missing authentication vulnerability that allows an unauthenticated attacker to upload an encrypted TAR archive, which can be abused to add arbitrary users.
A remote attacker, without authentication, can achieve full data confidentiality loss, arbitrary modification of data, complete denial of service or system unavailability. Federal agencies are required to remediate by 2025-01-08 under CISA BOD 22-01.
This is a Missing Authentication for Critical Function (CWE-306) vulnerability in NUUO NVRmini2 Devices. NUUO NVRmini2 through 3.11 allows an unauthenticated attacker to upload an encrypted TAR archive, which can be abused to add arbitrary users because of the lack of handle_import_user.php authentication. When combined with another flaw (CVE-2011-5325), it is possible to overwrite arbitrary files under the web root and achieve code execution as root. Exploitation requires remote network access, low attack complexity, no authentication required, and no user interaction required.
