Worst-case scenarioIf unpatched

A remote attacker, with a low-privilege account, can achieve full data confidentiality loss, arbitrary modification of data, complete denial of service or system unavailability. CISA has confirmed use of this vulnerability in known ransomware campaigns — treat as high priority for remediation. Federal agencies are required to remediate by 2022-06-14 under CISA BOD 22-01.

How the attack worksNo clicks needed

This is a Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) (CWE-79) vulnerability in QNAP Network Attached Storage (NAS). If exploited, this cross-site scripting vulnerability could allow remote attackers to inject malicious code. QNAP has already fixed these issues in the following QTS versions. QTS 4.4.2.1270 build 20200410 and later QTS 4.4.1.1261 build 20200330 and later QTS 4.3.6.1263 build 20200330 and later QTS 4.3.4.1282 build 20200408 and later QTS 4.3.3.1252 build 20200409 and later QTS 4.2.6 build 20200421 and later Exploitation requires remote network access, higher attack complexity, a low-privilege authenticated account, and user interaction required.
