WebRTC Heap Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
WebRTC, an open-source project providing web browsers with real-time communication, contains a heap buffer overflow vulnerability that allows an attacker to perform shellcode execution. This vulnerability impacts web browsers using WebRTC including but not limited to Google Chrome.
A remote attacker, without authentication, can achieve full data confidentiality loss, arbitrary modification of data, complete denial of service or system unavailability. CISA has confirmed use of this vulnerability in known ransomware campaigns — treat as high priority for remediation. Federal agencies are required to remediate by 2022-09-15 under CISA BOD 22-01.
This is a Out-of-bounds Write (CWE-787) vulnerability in WebRTC WebRTC. Heap buffer overflow in WebRTC in Google Chrome prior to 103.0.5060.114 allowed a remote attacker to potentially exploit heap corruption via a crafted HTML page. Exploitation requires remote network access, low attack complexity, no authentication required, and user interaction required.
